Suzuki Readies Hybrid, Autonomous Concepts

Suzuki Motor Corp. will publicly unveil a pair of retro-styled concept vehicles—the plug-in hybrid Waku SPO coupe (right) and Hanare autonomous van (below)—later this month at the Tokyo auto show.
A rendering of the tiny Waku (Japanese for excitement) shows a long hood, wide fenders, rounded headlights and a two-tone paint job. Suzuki says the vehicle is highly customizable, including exterior and interior parts that can be quickly swapped out. No technical details were provided.
The Hanare (cottage) is described as a home away from home for motorists. The interior can be configured for rest, work or entertainment as needed.
In August, Suzuki and Toyota Motor Corp. agreed to buy small equity stakes in each other as part of an expanding partnership. As part of the deal, the companies plan to collaborate on emerging technologies and services, including autonomous and electric vehicles.
