Report: Deal Near on VW Factory in Turkey

Officials have all but finalized an agreement for a new Volkswagen Group assembly plant in Turkey that would begin production by 2023, Reuters reports.
VW had been considering sites in Bulgaria and Turkey. But sources tell Reuters the €1 billion ($1.1 billion) factory will be built near Izmir on Turkey’s western coast. The facility reportedly will have annual capacity to make 350,000 SEAT, Skoda and VW brand models.
Reuters says remaining issues revolved around Turkish taxes on vehicles powered by engines larger than 1.6 liters. Sources tell the new service those questions were resolved by an “extremely positive” meeting last week between VW CEO Herbert Diess and Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan.
