Mercedes to Test V2X in Winter Conditions

Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz unit will begin testing a vehicle-to-infrastructure communication system this winter in Zollernalb, Germany.
Mercedes vehicles equipped with V2X transponders will send the data to a Daimler server when existing ABS and stability control sensors detect slippery road conditions. The anonymized location-based information will be relayed to the city, which can dispatch snow removal and de-icing services when and where they’re needed.
The pilot program will start in January. Participants must have vehicles equipped with a V2X system and have a “Mercedes me connect” data plan. Drivers can opt out of the program.
Mercedes started offering V2X in select models in 2016. The technology also allows similarly equipped vehicles to share information with each other.
