Honda Joins SAE Automated Vehicle Consortium
Honda Motor Co. has joined the Automated Vehicle Safety Consortium (AVSC), which was created in April by SAE International and industry partners to establish safety and testing guidelines for self-driving vehicles.

Honda Motor Co. has joined the Automated Vehicle Safety Consortium (AVSC), which was created in April by SAE International and industry partners to establish safety and testing guidelines for self-driving vehicles.
Other members in the Troy, Mich.-based group are Daimler, Ford, General Motors, Toyota, Lyft and Uber. AVSC initially plans to develop best practices for testing and identify common safety principles needed for Level 4/5 autonomous systems.
Edward Straub, who previously was the technical director and chief safety officer at the American Center for Mobility in Ypsilanti, Mich., is heading AVSC.
