Ford Debuts Its First All-Electric Vehicle for China

Ford Motor Co. has launched its first all-electric model in China, a battery-powered version of its Territory small crossover vehicle.
Ford and joint venture partner Jiangling Motors Corp. debuted the piston-powered Territory (pictured) a year ago at a base price of 199,000 yuan ($27,900). Based on JMC’s Yusheng S330 crossover, the Territory fits into Ford’s SUV lineup between the subcompact EcoSport and compact Kuga compact crossovers.
Ford already offers mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of the Territory. The all-electric variant targets young consumers in China’s fast-growing, second-tier cities. Ford says the EV can travel 360 km (224) miles per charge.
Ford has said it intends to replace its aging product lineup in China with 30 new or updated models—10 of them electrified—during the next three years. The company’s overall sales in China fell 28% to 92,900 units in the second quarter of 2019.
