China Surges Ahead on EV Charging Points

China has installed 466,000 charging points for electric vehicles, nearly eight times as many as the number of units operating in the U.S., Bloomberg News reports.
The news service says the U.S. appears likely to reach 400,000 charging outlets by 2025.
For now, several major cities in China—notably Jiangsu, Guangdong, Beijing and Shanghai—each have about 55,000 charging units in operation, compared with 61,000 for the U.S., according to Bloomberg. The news service bases its assessment on data from the China Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance.
The Paris-based International Energy Agency has estimates that as many as 20 million public EV charging ports will be in operation by 2030.
