Amazon Orders 100,000 Rivian Electric Vans
Amazon.com Inc., which led a $700 million investment round in Rivian Automotive LLC earlier this year, has agreed to purchase 100,000 electric vans from the Plymouth, Mich.-based startup company.

Amazon.com Inc., which led a $700 million investment round in Rivian Automotive LLC earlier this year, has agreed to purchase 100,000 electric vans from the Plymouth, Mich.-based startup company.
The companies claim the order is the largest ever for electric delivery vehicles. Amazon is expected to receive the first of the Rivian vans in 2021.
No details about the vehicles, other than a rendering released by Amazon (right), were announced.
Earlier this month, Cox Automotive Inc. invested $350 million in Rivian. Ford Motor Co. also has invested $500 million in Rivian and will use the company’s “skateboard” platform to carry an all-new Ford-badged electric truck.
Rivian aims to introduce its own R1T electric pickup truck and R1S electric SUV in the U.S. by the end of next year. The vehicles will be produced by the company at the former Mitsubishi Motor Corp. factory in Normal, Ill.
